FAQS

I've put together this section to help clarify the mechanics of La Dama’s world. If a specific question remains unanswered, feel free to send a message to the inbox. I'm always happy to talk more about the lore.

(Q:) Why can’t Lady Styx just break out of La Dama?
(A:) Lady Styx cannot escape because La Dama is a living prison; her regenerative powers make her a cage that refuses to open.
(Q:) Can La Dama be hurt?
A:) Absolutely. She is not invulnerable like Superman.
(Q:) Does La Dama experience pain during the process?
A:) Constantly. The healing isn't a magical. It is the violent snapping of bone and knitting of skin.
(Q:) Can La Dama be decapitated/incinerated?
A:) It is a physical impossibility. The regeneration is aggressive and outpaces the damage in real-time. Skin might melt away, but it knits back together before the heat can ever turn her to ash.
(Q:) Is there any way for Lady Styx to break free?
A:) Not in any physical way. The hold on Lady Styx stays in place because La Dama’s mind is still present. Even though La Dama wants to die, just wishing for the end isn't enough. The only way Lady Styx gets out is if La Dama’s sanity is completely destroyed.
(Q:) Can Lady Styx communicate with La Dama?
A:) Yes, but not with words. As a goddess, she forces these thoughts directly into La Dama’s subconscious. Styx haunts her with nightmares, often taking La Dama's own hopes and twisting them into something violent and unrecognizable. It is a cruel, creative process designed to rot La Dama’s spirit until there is nothing left.
(Q:) Can La Dama age?
A:) Aging is a form of decay, so no.
(Q:) Does La Dama still need to eat, sleep, or breathe?
A:) Technically, no. If La Dama stops eating, she feels the agony of starvation, but her body won't shut down.
(Q:) Does La Dama have any of Lady Styx’s powers?
A:) No. Lady Styx cannot control La Dama either.
(Q:) Does medicine or poison affect her?
A:) Toxins are processed before they can even enter her bloodstream. Even anesthesia barely lasts more than a few seconds, and depending on the poison, she may only briefly experience the symptoms.
(Q:) Can La Dama get sick?
A:) No, but she may carry the disease without showing any symptoms, making her an asymptomatic carrier.
(Q:) Why didn’t Lady Styx destroy La Dama’s mind when she was a child?
A:) Because the child lacked the higher awareness to perceive her and was simply too weak to pierce such a profoundly underdeveloped mind.
(Q:) How did Lady Styx become trapped?
A:) Lady Styx attached herself to La Dama (within her mother's womb) to stay hidden while she recovered. By the time Styx was strong enough to return, the body had already become a permanent cage.
(Q:) Can magic fix anything?
A:) No. Magic cannot affect the metahuman gene. Furthermore, Styx is too massive and too ancient to be permanently affected by magic. While the Guardians of Oa once managed to banish her, that was a stroke of luck involving a rare cosmic alignment.
